Variance of the Casimir force in an ideal Bose gas

چکیده

Abstract We consider an ideal Bose gas enclosed in a d -dimensional slab of thickness D . Using the grand canonical ensemble we calculate variance thermal Casimir force acting on slab’s walls. The evaluated per unit wall area is shown to decay like ? var / for large amplitude non-universal function two scaling variables ? ? and , where de Broglie wavelength bulk correlation length. It can be expressed via pressure, area, its derivative with respect chemical potential. For thermodynamic states corresponding presence Bose–Einstein condensate retains character while ratio mean standard deviation takes form ( D / L stretchy="false">) d ? 1 2 ? L linear size wall.

Bose-Einstein condensation in the relativistic ideal Bose gas.

The Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) critical temperature in a relativistic ideal Bose gas of identical bosons, with and without the antibosons expected to be pair-produced abundantly at sufficiently hot temperatures, is exactly calculated for all boson number densities, all boson point rest masses, and all temperatures. The Helmholtz free energy at the critical BEC temperature is lower with an...

The Ideal Bose — Einstein Gas , Revisited

Some questions concerning the ideal Bose—Einstein gas are reviewed and examined further. The bulk behavior including the condensation phenomenon is characterized by the thermodynamical properties, occupations of the states and their fluctuations, and the properties of the density matrices, including the diagonal and off-diagonal long range orders. Particular attention is focused on the differen...

The Casimir Effect for the Bose-Gas in Slabs

– We study the Casimir effect for the perfect Bose-gase in the slab geometry for various boundary conditions. We show that the grand canonical potential per unit area at the bulk critical chemical potential μ = 0 has the standard asymptotic form with universal Casimir terms. In contrast to the well-known Casimir effect for the photon gas, see e.g. [1], this effect for the massive quantum partic...

Dimensional Crossover for the Bose – Einstein Condensation of an Ideal Bose Gas∗

We study an ideal Bose gas of N atoms contained in a box formed by two identical planar and parallel surfaces S , enclosed by a mantle of height a perpendicular to them. Calling r0 the mean atomic distance, we assume S ≫ r 0 , while a may be comparable to r0. In the bidimensional limit (a/r0 ≡ γ << 1) we find a macroscopic number of atoms in the condensate at temperatures T ∼ O(1/ log(N)); ther...

Observations of density fluctuations in an elongated Bose gas: ideal gas and quasicondensate regimes.

We report in situ measurements of density fluctuations in a quasi-one-dimensional 87Rb Bose gas at thermal equilibrium in an elongated harmonic trap. We observe an excess of fluctuations compared to the shot-noise level expected for uncorrelated atoms. At low atomic density, the measured excess is in good agreement with the expected "bunching" for an ideal Bose gas. At high density, the measure...
